Introduction (In Burmese)

The illegal military coup on February 1st, 2021 has durably disrupted the lives of more than 50 million people in Myanmar. All areas of society, including the economy, education, health, and civil and political liberties, have been affected – adding to an already severe situation created by the Covid19 pandemic and unsettled conflicts and grievances. Over the past year, the military unlawfully beat, tortured, arrested, displaced and killed thousands of individuals. People have been living amidst constant physical, mental and emotional threats – while plans for their future have shrunk.
Yet, people in Myanmar have expressed wide-scale rejection of the coup. The revolution has taken many forms, including day-to-day resistance, street demonstrations, online actions, as well as more formal political resistance and armed struggle. The revolution is both collective and individual, and all actors are called upon to rethink their own identities and reflect on the changes needed to achieve a more equitable future for Myanmar.
This collection, brought together by young researchers from inside Myanmar is an example of such commitment. Entitled “Reflections on identity, politics, and nation-building in Myanmar beyond the coup”, it serves as a space to critically examine four different topics over the course of March. The first essay argues that the notion of national identity, tainted by Burmanization, must be challenged. The second essay looks at the historical perspectives of Bamar-dominated political parties on federalism that must be considered to understand current discussions on the topic. By looking at some of the challenges faced by ethnic political parties in past elections, the third essay calls for making space for their voices and concerns. Finally, the fourth essay discusses divisions among Kachin tribes and presents reconciliation as a path forward. While they are not exhaustive nor prescriptive, these essays amplify crucial conversations that are needed to set Myanmar on the path towards a genuine federal democracy.

၂၀၂၁ ခုနှစ် ဖေဖော်ဝါရီလ ၁ ရက်တွင် တရားမဝင်ကျူးလွန်ခဲ့သော စစ်အာဏာသိမ်းမှုသည် မြန်မာနိုင်ငံတွင်းက သန်းပေါင်း ၅၀ ကျော်လူသားတွေ၏ ဘဝကို ထိခိုက်ဖျက်ဆီးခဲ့သည်။ ကိုဗစ်ရောဂါကာလအတောအတွင်း မငြိမ်မသက်ဖြစ်ခဲ့ရသော ဆုံးရှုံးမှုများအပြင် ဤစစ်အာဏာသိမ်းမှုသည် စီးပွားရေး၊ လူမှုရေး၊ ပညာရေး၊ ကျန်းမာရေး၊ လူမှုရေးရာနှင့် နိုင်ငံရေးရာ လွတ်လပ်ခွင့်များကိုပါ အဟန့်အတားဖြစ်စေခဲ့သည်။ လွန်ခဲ့သောနှစ်အတွင်း စစ်တပ်သည် အပြစ်မဲ့သူများအား ထောင်ချီပြီး တရားမဝင် ဖမ်းဆီး ရိုက်နှက် ချုပ်နှောင် သတ်ဖြတ်ခြင်းများကို ကျူးလွန်ခဲ့သည်။ လက်ရှိတွင် မြန်မာပြည်တွင်းနေထိုင်သူများသည် ၄င်းတို့၏အနာဂတ်များကို ရိုက်ချိုးခံခဲ့ရပြီး စိတ်ပိုင်းဆိုင်ရာ၊ ကိုယ်ပိုင်းဆိုင်ရာ ကျီးလန့်စာစာနေထိုင်နေရသည်။
သို့ပေသိ မြန်မာပြည်တွင်းနေထိုင်သူများသည် စစ်အာဏာသိမ်းမှုကို လက်သင့်မခံနိုင်ကြောင်းကို နိုင်ငံတစ်ဝိုက် ပြသနေဆဲဖြစ်သည်။ စစ်အာဏာရှင်စနစ်ကို နေ့စဥ်လမ်းပေါ်ဆန္ဒပြမှုများ၊ အွန်လိုင်းပေါ်ဆန္ဒပြမှုများသာမက လက်နက်ကိုင်တော်လှန်ရေးအစရှိသဖြင့် ပုံသဏ္ဍာန်အမျိုးမျိုးဖြင့် တော်လှန်နေခဲ့ကြသည်။ စစ်အာဏာတော်လှန်ရေးသည် တစ်ဦးတစ်ယောက်ချင်းစီး၏တော်လှန်ရေးဖြစ်သကဲ့သို့ အများ၏တော်လှန်ရေးလည်း ဖြစ်ပေသည်။ ဤတော်လှန်ရေးတွင် ပါဝင်ကြသူများသည် ၄င်းတို့၏ ဖြစ်တည်မှုများကို ပြန်လည်စေကြောပြီး ပိုမိုမျှတသော မြန်မာနိုင်ငံဖြစ်ထွန်းလာနိူင်ရန် မည်သို့ ပြောင်းလဲမှုများ လုပ်ဆောင်သင့်သလဲဆိုသည်ကိုပါ မေးခွန်းထုတ်လာကြသည်။
မြန်မာပြည်တွင်းမှ တက်သစ်စသုတေသနပညာရှင်လူငယ်များ စုပေါင်းရေးသားထားသော ဤအထူးစာစုသည် အဆိုပါစေကြောမှု၏ ဥပမာတစ်ခုသာ ဖြစ်ပေသည်။ "စစ်အာဏာသိမ်းမှုကို ကျော်လွန်ပြီး မြန်မာနိုင်ငံ၏ ဖြစ်တည်မှုဝိသေသလက္ခဏာ၊ နိုင်ငံရေးရာများနှင့် တိုင်းပြည်တည်ဆောက်ရေးများကို စဥ်းစားသုံးသပ်ခြင်း"ဟု စုပေါင်းခေါင်းစဥ်တပ်ပြီး ဤအထူးစာစုတွင် ပါရှိသော စာတမ်းများသည် ၂၀၂၂ ခုနှစ် မတ်လတလျှောက် အကြောင်းအရာ လေးမျိုးကို ဆွေးနွေးတင်ပြသွားမည် ဖြစ်သည်။ ပထမဆုံး စာတမ်းတွင် ဗမာလူမျိုးကြီးဝါဒမှိုင်းမိနေခဲ့သော မြန်မာနိုင်ငံ၏ နိုင်ငံရေး ဖြစ်တည်မှုကို စိန်ခေါ်သင့်ကြောင်း စာရေးသူတို့က အာဘော်ဖွင့်ဆိုထားသည်။ ဒုတိယစာတမ်းသည် ဗမာနိုင်ငံရေးပါတီများ ကြီးစိုးခဲ့သော ဖယ်ဒရယ်စနစ်အကြောင်းကို သမိုင်းပြောင်းပြန်တင်ပြထားသည်။ မြန်မာပြည်တွင်းက ပြီးခဲ့သော ရွေးကောက်ပွဲများကို သုံးသပ်ပြီး တတိယစာတမ်းတွင် တိုင်းရင်းသားပါတီများ ကြုံတွေ့ခဲ့ရသော အခက်အခဲများကို တင်ပြသွားပြီး ၄င်းတို့၏ အသံများကို မည်သို့မည်ပုံ နားထောင်သင့်သလဲကိုပါ ဆွေးနွေးထားသည်။ စတုတ္ထမြောက်စာတမ်းတွင် ကချင်လူမျိုးစုအချင်းချင်းကြားက ပဋိပက္ခများနှင့် ထိုပဋိပက္ခများကို မည်သို့ ရင်ကြားစေ့မလဲဆိုသည်များကို ရေးသားသုံးသပ်ထားသည်။
ဤအထူးစာစု၌ ပါရှိသော စာတမ်းများသည် လုံးဝဥဿုံပြီးပြည့်စုံသည် မဟုတ်သော်ငြားလည်း မြန်မာနိုင်ငံအတွက် စစ်မှန်သော ဖယ်ဒရယ် ဒီမိုကရေစီစနစ် ပေါ်ပေါက်လာရေးအတွက် မရှိမဖြစ်လိုအပ်နေသော စကားဝိုင်းတစ်ခုအနေအဖြစ် တင်ဆက်လိုက်ရပါသည်။
